Touring the Ring of Kerry: Handstander!

Far below in the field you can see a Stone Ring Fort.  That is Staigue Fort - believed to have been built in the Iron Age, around 300 AD.  It is located just outside of the Village of Sneem.  SIDE NOTE:  Sneem is the home of the 7 Casey Brothers, known as "The Toughest Family on Earth" with all becoming famous wrestlers, oarsmen, and tug of war champs.  A statue has been erected in honor of Steve "Crusher" Casey in the Village of Sneem.  They were inducted, as a family, into the Irish Sports Hall of Fame.  The only complete family so honored!  But I digress...

We did not get to tour this ring fort, and that is another reason I would like to go back to the Ring of Kerry and stop at places that I would really like to see.  There are many more megalithic ruins, and  castle ruins, and activities along the Route and it would be worth it to go back on our own and select specific sites to see and villages to stay for a night or two!  You can even walk the route, but that would be pretty ambitious...

We were stopped at a car park with a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean and the ring fort and the dramatic Irish hillsides.  What a gorgeous drive!  The complete ring of Kerry basically circles the entire Iveragh Peninsula and affords some of the prettiest views of Ireland.

Connor likes to get my heart racing...

At this point I have no pictures of Haley as she was starting to get a migraine.  Fortunately, the bus driver had a spot up front for her for the last stretch of the trip and our hotel actuall was the first one along the route back to Killarney, so he dropped her off.  We had to ride to the town to get our cars, but she just wanted to get to her room and lie down.  Still, for the last leg of the trip we saw a lot of spectacular scenery!
