Wicklow Mountains - Avoca

The next and last stop on our bus tour was Avoca.  About 2 miles north of the town are the Rivers Avonmore and Avonbeg and the area is known as the Meeting of the Waters, and is immortalized in a song of the same name:

“There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet 
As that vale in whose bosom the bright waters meet!
Oh the last rays of feeling and life must depart
Ere the bloom of that valley shall fade from my heart”

The rivers join and become the River Avoca upon which the town sits.  This is also where the BBC series, Ballykissangel, was filmed!  Needless to say, it is a lovely area, even in the cold and rain!  We ate at Fitzgerald's Pub and they gave us free shots of whiskey.  I must say, it was a good day for a warm shot of something!  They also had the show, Ballykissangel, playing on their big tv screens - so we could see shots of the town in sunny weather while we dried off in the pub.

There was a little museum all about the town.  I took a photo to see what it looked like back in horse and buggy time, and also a shot of a millstone for my friend who collects them.
