Strokestown Park

Strokestown is about 15 or 20 minutes from our house.  It is in County Roscommon right on the N-5.  We drove through it every week as we headed to and from Castlebar.  There is a sign that tells you about the famine museum, but we were always just driving through, and usually at night.  When Haley had her break in April, she and I took a day to go there and visit the  museum.

I was not able to get back far enough to get a shot of the entire mansion, and my panorama on my camera didn't work.  (I'm sure that was due to human error...)  This picture is from the visitor web site - www.visitroscommon.com.  It gives you an idea of the magnitude of the home that was built in the 18th Century.

This is my shot of the main part of the house.

This  is the wing with the kitchen and servants quarters.

The two side wings are attached to the main house by these curved sections.

This wing is actually a stable.  The windows on the bottom are fake!  They are there for uniformity in the design.

As you can see, the day we were there was absolutely gorgeous!
