The construction of the Cathedral began in 1163 and wasn't completed until the start of the 14th Century.
There are three rose windows. The first one is the south window.
Below is the north rose window, which has kept the largest amount of original stained glass. The windows were built around 1250.
The west rose window is the one in the center of the facade. From inside, it is partially hidden by the organ.
Was it worth the visit? I would say yes, simply because it is rather incredible the work that went into building it, the painstaking details, and the variety of pieces inside make it worth a visit. Also, it is HUGE!!! For those who are particularly religious, it may be a more moving tour, but I did think it was gorgeous and it was worth a visit. There was, however, a little booklet about it that could be purchased for 3 euro. (Making money from something other than bingo!) I would not buy that again as it didn't really tell me very much. I guess I made a contribution to the Church though!
It is an iconic part of Paris. J'aime Paris!
