I am Kathleen Schlueter. I am an attorney, and up until 2 months ago, I was working for a legal aid in Illinois. I am currently on what I will call a sabbatical, as my husband, Steve, took a position with his company that has us living in Longford, Ireland for the next 1 to 2 years. We have three children. Our oldest is Zach who is 21, our middle child is Connor who is 18, and our youngest is Haley who will soon be 17. We also have two golden retrievers, Rugby and Chloe.
We have been preparing for this move since August of 2012! Steve has been living in Longford since October 2012, while the kids and I stayed in Illinois so Connor could finish his last year of high school.
Preparing for a move overseas meant dealing with 25 years worth of marital "assets" such as magazines we saved, college papers we needed, stacks of record albums and no working turntable, VHS tapes, floppy discs, you name it, we saved it!
Eventually we purged the house of stuff through garage sales, giveaways, recycling -it was cathartic! We sold 2 cars, we stored boxes of stuff we didn't need overseas but still couldn't part with, got passports for everyone, and got the dogs a clean bill of health to make the flight over to the Emerald Isle. It is easier to get the kids over than it is to get the dogs over - truly it is.
Finally the flight day arrived, and on July 11, 2013 we flew 5 humans and 2 dogs from Chicago to Dublin to start a grand adventure...
