We didn't do much on Friday, having been flying all night and arriving so early that morning, but we did get unpacked and found our way around a bit.
On Saturday, July 13 we went to a bog and walked with the dogs. The road to the bog was a bit sketchy, with areas where only one car could pass. Not sure what to do when two cars meet on such a road, but I am resolved not to find out!
There were areas where people had cut peat in blocks and had it stacked up. This is used for fuel. People apparently own or rent plots to harvest their own peat.
The dogs appreciated the walk and the new smells. No chipmunks or other rodents for Chloe to chase, but also no Mosquitos - yay! Flies and bees, sure, also some gnats of some sort, but nothing that followed us and pestered us so we all had a pleasant walk.
The lack of bugs is amazing! Our windows don't have any screens. We leave them open and do get flies, but it really isn't bad.
Currently our back yard (garden is the term used here) is wild and overgrown and there is a pasture just beyond the fence. There are 2 cows that come down and Chloe went bananas until she got closer and seemed a little surprised by their bulk!
