More of St. Patrick's Cathedral

After the St. Patrick's Day parade, we toured the St. Patrick's Cathedral, which was where the parade route ended.  It is considered to be the earliest Christian site in Ireland and it is where St. Patrick is said to have baptized converts.  Originally a wooden church, the current building was built between 1191 and 1270.  It is the largest church in Ireland.  Today it is the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland.  In Irish it is known as Árd Eaglais Naomh Pádraig.

The church is HUGE!  It is still a place of worship.  None of my pictures show the magnitude of the cavernous building that is the Cathedral, but if you look it up online, you can see pictures that really show it's size.  It was fairly dark when we were there and quite crowded with visitors coming from the parade.

This bard is buried here and I loved that he had a four day funeral!

Naturally, I couldn't capture the true magnificence of the Church, but I was intriqued that the organ fund donation is to be made into a keg!
