Carrick-A-Rede means rock in the road.  Atlantic salmon go past Carrick Island and Larrybane Bay on traveling west.  For the past 350 years, fisherman have used a rope  bridge to get across to Carrick Island to lay their nets and catch the salmon  The rope bridge today is 30 meters above the sea.  We were fortunate to have sunshine and not too much wind (though it was windy, which  made the handstand even more impressive!) so the bridge was open for crossing and it was absolutely gorgeous.  It is a fairly long walk to  the bridge, and thus a fairly long trek back,  but well worth it.

We stayed in Ballintoy at the Fullerton Arms which was right on the  main road.  It was quaint and lovely and a hot breakfast was included.  There was a pub attached with truly fantastic food and live entertainment.  The live entertainment was a singer who did a lot of country but also Eric Clapton and fun Irish tunes.  It was the go to place for the town and it was a blast!  Some big  guys walked in  and they all had Houston Fire District shirts - they were from Texas and they were in Northern Ireland for the World Firefighter and Police Games!  We had a grand time singing and chatting and then walked out the back and to our rooms! I wold highly recommend the Fullerton Arms as a great place to stay and eat!
